Unique to the series is the concept of battling other rivals unlike other video games in the racing genre, players are encouraged, and sometimes even required, to ram rival cars and cause traffic to crash. Traffic checking is the focus of a new race type, Traffic Attack (whereby a player must earn a set amount of Crash Dollars through checking traffic), which can be used later on.ĭuring these events, players have access to a limited amount of boost which is acquired through various dangerous driving techniques, including but not limited to driving on the wrong side of the road, tailgating opponents and drifting. A new gameplay feature in Burnout Revenge is the ability to ram same-way small to medium traffic, known as "traffic checking", propelling the rammed car forward the event in which a "checked" car hits a rival is considered as a Traffic Takedown. These take place within rush-hour traffic and include circuit racing, Road Rage (where players cause as many rivals to crash as possible within a time limit, or until the player's car is wrecked), Burning Lap (a single-lap, single-racer time attack mode), Eliminator (a circuit race where every thirty seconds, the last-placed racer's car is detonated the race continues until only one racer is left), and Crash (where the player is placed at a junction with the aim of accumulating as many "Crash Dollars" as possible). In Burnout Revenge, players compete in a range of racing game types with different aims. ![]() The game was also made backwards compatible with the Xbox One on, and the Xbox Series X/S upon the console's launch. ![]() A successor titled Burnout Paradise, was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 22 January 2008. Revenge also expands on the combat side of its gameplay with new features such as "traffic checking" (ramming same-way traffic), Vertical Takedowns (landing on a rival car after the player's car drives over a jump), a new game type (Traffic Attack) and significant changes to the gameplay of Crash mode (a game type where players attempt to cause a crash as large as possible). Similar to its predecessor Burnout 3: Takedown, Revenge focuses on a mixture of racing in the midst of rush-hour traffic, and vehicular combat players use the cars themselves as weapons. New off-line additions are the split-screen Traffic Attack and a hot-seat Crash Tour for up to six players, next to the familiar Road Rage, Crash Party and Crash Battle modes.Burnout Revenge is a racing video game developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Xbox 360. Online multiplayer is available for up to six players. There are many new tracks and cars, a soundtrack with lots of famous artists, and a new world tour in different countries. You have to time your start to receive a proper boost and then it is only about steering, crashbreakers and aftertouch. In the Crash mode, the multipliers and bonuses have been removed, and you cannot drive at full speed towards a crossroads. Other modes include regular races, grand prix races, Burning Lap (high-speed time attack), Eliminator (last one after each round is out) and a normal time attack mode. ![]() The Road Rage mode (take down a set number of rivals within a time limit) and Crash mode make a return, but Traffic Attack is new - race against the clock and level the traffic at the same time. They can now be actively used to obstruct traffic or send them into your foes. Non-racing vehicles are no longer a nuisance with the sole purpose of slowing you down. This can also be achieved by medal placings that grant new vehicles.Ĭollectible signature takedowns, crashbreakers (detonate your vehicle, now also in some regular races) and aftertouch for precise havoc remain, but one of the major changes is the ability to check traffic. Reckless driving bumps your Revenge rank, unlocking new events. This is emphasized by impact time, which shows crashes in all their slowed-down glory, and the boost you receive after a successful wrecking. The fourth Burnout racing game puts you once again in the eye of traffic storms, where you do not only rush to be the fastest, but brutally, yet stylishly, take down your opponents. ![]()
